Parish Council Responsibilities
Responsibilities for local services are divided between Lancashire County Council for education, public transport and highways and West Lancashire Borough Council for housing, planning, public health, and waste collection to name but a few.
The Parish Council is responsible for representing the views of parish residents on local matters. In particular, it makes a contribution to:
- Carr Lane sports pavilion and community room;
- Carr Lane playing fields;
- Carr Heys Plantation (woodland)
- Play Areas – Carr Lane and Mere Brow;
- Bus shelters in villages (with the County and Borough Council);
- Village notice boards;
- Local footpaths;
- Wayside seats,
- Off street local parking at Church Road
- Christmas lights in the villages
The Parish Council also works very hard with West Lancashire BC and Lancashire CC and adjoining parish councils on matters to do with protecting and improving the parish, influencing decisions on development, traffic and transport and comments on all planning applications made within the parish.
The Council also tries to support the work of local organisations wherever possible and gives grants to support this work where appropriate. The Council provides trustees for the Tarleton Endowed School Trust, The Hannah Leadbetter Trust and the Layfield Charities within the parish which all give grants to support the less well off or those in particular need. A member of the Parish Council sits on the Management committee of Mere Brow Village Hall.
